Vision Meets Structure
The WDC Pavilion in San Diego was more than just another structural build—it was a visionary collaboration between HELEO and MDEP that brought bold, sculptural architecture to life in one of the most anticipated design showcases of the year. Part of the World Design Capital 2024 initiative, the pavilion was designed to be an experiential landmark—inviting people to gather, reflect, and interact with space in an entirely new way.
Our Role
As structural engineers, MDEP played a critical role in transforming HELEO’s imaginative vision into a tangible, buildable structure. From early collaboration to permitting and final execution, the MDEP team ensured the integrity and feasibility of every detail—while preserving the artistic intent of the design. This project was a testament to our team’s agility and precision in working with non-traditional forms and materials under a tight timeline and high visibility.
Why It Matters
This project wasn’t just about structural performance—it was about cultural significance. The WDC Pavilion was designed to create space for community, storytelling, and exchange during a globally celebrated design event. MDEP is proud to have been a part of something that not only pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in structural engineering but also helped foster connection and creativity across disciplines.
